Soccer Season...times two!

Lauren began her first season of soccer this spring. Excited to begin, she selected her own ball (metallic pink) and slipped on her sister's old cleats. She donned her dark green shirt, wearing #7, and began warming up with her new team. We were curious to see how she would fair on the soccer field...would she be cautious, aggressive?

During the first game, she insisted on running with her hands behind her back (obviously a nervous habit). Although she ran with the pack and kicked the ball several times, she didn't appear to be very aggressive.

However, after 2 rained out games, she finally took the field again this past Saturday. Showing tremendous confidence on the field, she proceeded to go after ball, dribble it down the field, and score 2 goals!!!! (Of course, this was the week we didn't have our camera. Note to self...bring camera from here on out. )

Looks like soccer may be in her future!

Special Person Day

Lauren had "Special Person Day" at preschool this week, a day in which the children can select a special adult to bring to school for the morning. Lauren's special person...her Dad!

Mark had the pleasure of decorating a picture frame with Lauren in her class as well as watching their circle time. Lauren's job for the day was Calendar. After classroom time, they shared a continental breakfast together before heading to music time in the sanctuary.


At music, the children sang many songs, danced and played various instruments.

Posted outside the classroom was each child's portrait of their Dad and a completed questionnaire.


Mark and Lauren had a wonderful morning and enjoyed their "special" time together.

Self-Discipline

A couple of weeks ago, Kate was nominated by her teachers and peers for displaying one of her school's character traits...self-discipline. The following letter was sent home.


The selected students were then recognized at a breakfast and presented with the following certificate.

Library Card

Last week, Kate's love for reading and books was made official...she received her very OWN library card. Now, she has no need to use my card or her Dad's. She took her time and carefully signed her name to the back of the card.

Mark and I were both impressed with how neat her writing was especially for 1st grade. (Maybe she'll follow in her mother's footsteps for handwriting.)

She proudly held up her new card so I could take a picture and then it was off to the stacks to find some new fairy books!

She has been reading the series of fairy books non-stop! She claims there are 77 books total. After she reads a book she records it on her "Fairy Book list." As you can see, we've read 23 so far...only 54 more to go!

Pajama Day

Lauren was so excited to participate in the long-awaited Pajama Day at her preschool this past Friday. She had her outfit planned for an entire week and was so excited for the event, that I received a visit at both 2:30am and 5am Friday morning!

Lauren selected her monkey nightgown, pink leggings and her pink bathroom. (She informed us that only she and her teachers would be wearing bathrobes.)


During the day they were treated to a viewing of Max and Ruby in their sleep attire. I think the kids would wear their pajamas everyday if allowed...but then again, who wouldn't?!

She arrived!

As many of you recall, one of the items on Lauren's Wish List to Santa was a doll that "peeps and poops" as she calls it. Well...Santa delivered and Lauren was thrilled when she opened her doll on Christmas morning.


The day after Christmas, Lauren fed her doll for the first time. She was very careful to get the food in the mouth and give her baby water after each spoonful.


After the feeding, the baby's diaper became full and I had the honor of changing the baby's first "poopey" diaper. Much to Lauren's disappointment, the "poop" was a yellow liquid (the "food" was pears). Kate asked where the poop was since the yellow must be the "pee." I explained that the "pee" would be clear and that the yellow was supposed to be the "poop" from the pear food. Throughout the conversation, Lauren continued to ask how to make the doll "poop." Obviously they weren't prepared for the fact that a baby doll's bowel movements are a little different than their own.

How Times Change

With Kate's love for reading, our bedtime roles are slowly starting to diminish. Mark and I used to be the ones to read the bedtime stories, however lately Kate has assumed that role. Many a night, Lauren requests her sister over her parents. The times they are a changing!
